Peace in our time

Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict.

Proverbs 17:1

Another member of Love's family is peace.

Mentioned in Galatians 5:22, it is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

It is not something fragile like a ceasing of hostilities between two conflicting factions.

Just before WW2, Neville Chamberlain returned from a meeting with Hitler, waving a signed agreement announcing: "Peace in our time"! We all know how that panned out, don't we!

Real peace is a strong foundation on which the Holy Spirit can build an image of Jesus in each of our lives.

Jesus' great parting gift to His disciples was peace:

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

He wants us to be grounded in His peace too.

There are so many reasons to be agitated in this earthly life, that the supernatural "heart-peace" of the Holy Spirit is essential to maintain our balance moment by moment.

When the disciples were cowering away in fear, Jesus appeared to them, after His Resurrection:

John 20:21-22 AMPC

Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! [Just] as the Father has sent Me forth, so I am sending you. [22] And having said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit!

We need to be missionaries of peace in the midst of this turbulent world, where the very foundations of life are being challenged and eroded.

Prayer

Father God, I see that Your will is for me is to live in heart peace before You. Let the peace that Jesus has made on the cross permeate my whole being by the power of the Holy Spirit. May I be a peace maker and a peace giver.

We can have a true peace in our time ONLY through the Lord Jesus.
