Parents

Matthew 5:45 AMPC To show that you are the children of your Father Who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and makes the rain fall upon the upright and the wrongdoers [alike].

When I was in Sainsbury's recently, grabbing some veg, I heard someone call my name.

A woman, who I didn't recognise [and still don't], said:

"You  get more like your mum everyday!"

I replied: "As long as I'm like her kind heart, I don't mind!"

The hallmark of my lovely mum was kindness and gentleness. I'd love to have those attributes.

"Our" fox cubs are growing so fast that it's hard to tell them from their father!

It's just the way of creation that we obtain a family likeness from our parents.

Jesus, in His great Sermon on the Mount, tells us we demonstrate that we are God's children by the way we treat our "enemies".

Here's the rub - am I growing to be more like my Heavenly Father on a daily basis?

How do I treat those who are antagonistic to me?

Do I let hatred arise in my heart toward them?

Sitting here before Jesus I have to admit that prejudice does exist in my attitudes.

The way I act, think and feel reveals who my Father really is.

It's a hard thing to admit, but facing the truth is the first step to change.

It's right to grasp the assurance of our belonging in Jesus, but how much are we growing to be like Him?

The Pharisees that Jesus dealt with boasted that Abraham was their father.

John 8:39 onward “Abraham is our father,” they answered.

“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. You are doing the works of your own father.”

If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God.

A prayer Father God, it's a daunting thing to see the hardness of my own heart. Please so fill me with Your loving Holy Spirit that I am able to grow to be like You.
