Isaiah 42:10 AMPC
Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise from the end of the earth! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, the islands and coastal regions and the inhabitants of them [sing a song such as has never been heard in the heathen world]!
We live close to the old Roman port Portus Lemanis, now Port Lympne.
Around AD 43 Roman merchants using this port first brought the message about Jesus to these shores - an echo of the Isaiah prophecy. They told the locals stories of Jesus and His disciples.
England remained largely pagan however. It took many years for the Gospel to spread as paganism was deep rooted.
Another great missionary trip happened around AD 597 when Augustine and 40 other monks arrived down the coast at Ramsgate to meet king AEthelberth and his Christian queen Bertha.
Finally the king converted and Christianity spread until we became known as a Christian country.
So the shores which are now so controversial with illegal immigrants arriving daily, were truly blessed in bringing the saving Gospel of Jesus to this land.
Perhaps as we've given ground, via complacency, paganism, atheism and Islamism have taken over.
Yet the power of the Gospel of Christ has not diminished.
It's time to be unashamedly Christian and stand up for the faith that made this land great.
Romans 1:16-17 NLT
For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes-the Jew first and also the Gentile. [17] This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."
Could we be modern day Augustines bringing Hope back to this dark land?
