Psalm 23:5 AMPC
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.
How we need an anointed head when dealing with enemies.
It's so easy to respond in retaliation - with anger and resentment - even disgust.
I think of some of the "anointed heads" mentioned in the Bible:
Joseph, who cared for the brothers who had sold him into slavery and told his dad that he had been killed.
Genesis 50:19-21
David, who mourned for king Saul, who had sought to kill him on many occasions.
2 Samuel 1:23 AMPC
Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely! In their lives and in their deaths they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who forgave those who were stoning him to death.
Acts 7:59-60 AMPC
And while they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive and accept and welcome my spirit! [60] And falling on his knees, he cried out loudly, Lord, fix not this sin upon them [lay it not to their charge]! And when he had said this, he fell asleep [in death].
These responses aren't possible without the oil of the Holy Spirit transcending normal human reaction.
I reflect on these characters, frail humans like you and me, and see that "Holy Spirit oil" had poured over each one, enabling supernatural forgiveness to flow.
Yes, they were in the presence of their enemies, but empowered by that "oil" to have a divine response.
Hear the words of Jesus and pray for the oil of the Holy Spirit to pour over your mind:
Luke 6:27-31 TPT
"But if you will listen, I say to you, love your enemies and do something wonderful for them in return for their hatred. [28] When someone curses you, bless that person in return. When you are mistreated and harassed by others, accept it as your mission to pray for them. [29] To those who despise you, continue to serve them and minister to them. If someone takes away your coat, give him as a gift your shirt as well. [30] When someone comes to beg from you, give to that person what you have. When things are wrongly taken from you, do not demand they be given back. [31] However you wish to be treated by others is how you should treat everyone else.
Father God, I need a whole lot of Your oil to be poured over my head. My mindset is so out of kilter with Jesus' words.
