Luke 17:26-30 NLT
"When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. [27] In those days, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all. [28] "And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business-eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building- [29] until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. [30] Yes, it will be 'business as usual' right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
Are we now surpassing the depravity of Sodom in this world?
Ezekiel 16:48-50 NLT
As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, Sodom and her daughters were never as wicked as you and your daughters. [49] Sodom's sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door. [50] She was proud and committed detestable sins, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.
The population of Sodom were continually thirsting for sensual pleasures. In particular, seeking a sexual high - natural or unnatural.
They were proud of their unleashed, insatiable sexual exploits.
There was no shame.
The Sodomites were indifferent and callous to the needs of others - consumed with selfish appetites.
That brought about their destruction.
Jesus warns that similar conditions will bring about the world's demise.
However, the majority of the global population will be oblivious to the impending doom.
It follows that, if the Gospel is consistently rejected and the warnings of Jesus treated as nonsense, then, of course, divine judgement is the last thing on the global conscience.
We're more concerned about carbon footprints than sins' fatal consequences!
In fact, the majority reject any idea of personal sin.
Why can't we just "please ourselves"?
God forbid that we complacently ignore the signs of the times.
May our eyes and ears be opened to see what's coming and may we escape the impending horror via the salvation offered by Jesus.
Matthew 3:10 NLT
Even now the ax of God's judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.
Sodom was a real place with real fatal consequences. We must wake up and learn the lesson before it's too late.
