Nowhere

Luke 9:58 AMPC

And Jesus told him, Foxes have lurking holes and the birds of the air have roosts and nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.

Last night, as we walked along the canal path, we saw some hole dug in the ground towards the undergrowth of dense brambles and long grass - probably a fox hole or den. At least they have somewhere to call their own, as Jesus mentioned!

Watching video clips of those desperate people fleeing Afghanistan via the mountainous terrain toward Iran, my heart was stirred.

Here we are in our homes, relatively safe, knowing we have a bed to sleep in, food to eat and friends to visit.

How would it be to have nowhere to call home, having been stripped of everything.

Moreover, we don't need to look that far in order to see homelessness. Many in our own nation sleep rough each night, sheltering wherever they can, using cardboard boxes for insulation.

Jesus understands the plight of the homeless and the refugee, because He walked that way too.

He purposely left Heaven, where He was part of the Godhead, worshipped and adored from aeons of eternity in order to identify with, and, share our lost state.

Philippians 2:6-8

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness - and, being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

This is the kind of God we can relate to. One who has been through loss, loneliness and suffering so He understands.

Many times He had to run from the authorities who wanted to stone Him or even throw him off a cliff in His own town.

So when we pray for those people who have been deprived of everything, Jesus enters in to their circumstances in a way no one else can.

Pray that, as the gospel is shared by believers, hearts will be open to receive that Jesus cares about them.

Song

He left the Splendour of Heaven

Knowing His destiny

Was the lonely hill of Golgotha

There to lay down His life for me.

If that isn't love

The ocean is dry

There's no stars in the sky

And the sparrow can't fly

If that isn't love

Then Heavens a myth

There's no feeling like this

If that isn't love
