Not a ghost!

Luke 24:36-43 NLT

And just as they were telling about it, Jesus Himself was suddenly standing there among them. "Peace be with you," He said. [37] But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost! [38] "Why are you frightened?" He asked. "Why are your hearts filled with doubt? [39] Look at My hands. Look at My feet. You can see that it's really Me. Touch Me and make sure that I AM not a ghost, because ghosts don't have bodies, as you see that I do." [40] As He spoke, He showed them His hands and His feet. [41] Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then He asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" [42] They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, [43] and He ate it as they watched.

Does it matter that Jesus was raised with a tangible touchable body?

In an age where scientists are talking about potentially living forever by being "transhuman" - a human consciousness in a robotic body - the craving for eternal life is deep within us.

Only they are trying to achieve it without God.

You see we weren't originally designed for death.

"He has set eternity in the heart of men"

Ecclesiastes 3:11b

Jesus having a Resurrected Eternal Body was the culmination of Salvation.

The first Adam was created perfect - only his sin brought death and spiritually "infected" the entire human race.

The Last Adam, Jesus, took our death penalty, and was raised with a new incorruptible body.

He wasn't a disembodied spirit - no, He has flesh and bones and the ability to eat.

But His Resurrected Body isn't limited to time and space as we are.

His Body can pass through closed doors as we see in the passage above.

There was something so different about the Resurrected Jesus that even His closest followers failed to recognise Him at first.

Thankfully, our own resurrected bodies will be perfect too - some of us are not much keen on what we have right now!! We could do with an upgrade...

And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man (Adam), so shall we bear the image of the Heavenly man (Jesus).

1 Corinthians 15:49

It's true for every believer...
