Luke 24:1 But very early on Sunday morning[*] the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 3 So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes. 5 The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man[*] must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.” 8 Then they remembered that he had said this. 9 So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened. 11 But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it. 12 However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look.
As you read the account of that Resurrection morning, how does it sound to you?
The eager, incredulous women, fresh from the empty tomb conveyed the message from the angels (men).
But to the "sensible, logical thinking" men, it sounded like nonsense!
Huddled away, depressed and even fearing for their own lives, they dismissed the "silly, emotional" women's news as wishful thinking - as trying to keep a dead dream alive.
Yet something tugged at Peter's heart and at least he wanted to look for himself.
If you're convinced that Jesus is dead as a do-do, rotted away in some tomb in Jerusalem - at least have a look at the evidence, like Peter did.
No one ever found Jesus' body, though they must've searched endlessly in order to scotch any rumours of His Resurrection.
No, like the angels said: "Why are you searching for the living among the dead?"
THE most pivotal moment in history for us all is not nonsense. It is gloriously, wonderfully true - Jesus blasted His Way through the ancient barrier of Death and the route is now clear to everlasting life for those that believe.
2 Timothy 1:10
And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.
Pause to reflect on the incredibly brilliant news that death isn't the end of the story - new life eternal is a gift ready to be grasped and opened to each one of us through Jesus Christ.
Don't dismiss it as nonsense.
