No pockets in shrouds

Luke12:15

Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

A dear friend of mine who's gone to be with Jesus had a favourite saying: "There's no pockets in shrouds"! (Grave clothes)..

She was basically reiterating what Jesus said regarding greed for more and more possessions - seeing how much you can stack up in a bank account or stuff into wardrobes and cupboards!

How easy it is to become engrossed in material things and forget to put Jesus first.

Just before entering the Promised Land Moses warned the Israelites that when they became "fat" with the good things, they would forget that it was God who had provided for them.

Deuteronomy 31:20 AMPC

For when I have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten and filled themselves and become fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and despise and scorn Me and break My covenant.

Aren't we just as fickle?

In the past, this country was proud to be called Christian and sent out missionaries around the globe spreading the good news of Jesus as He commissioned.

Sadly, we have largely departed from this heritage and no good has come from it!

Individually, when we're needy, prayers come thick and fast, but when we're in the midst of abundance how quick we are to forget to put Jesus first.

Heart worship turns to lip service.

God forbid that we let our hearts grow cold before Him.

Never forget who gave you the good things you now have.

Perhaps it's a blessing that lack comes knocking at the door. Then we can truly see that life is much more than possessions.

When we're at death's door the last thing we'll ask for is our bank statement!

Luke 12:34 AMPC

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Be very assured there are indeed no pockets in shrouds!
