Romans 3:20
For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. 21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
Isn't it a fact of life that we are subconsciously assessing other people's behaviour (or our own), grading them as lesser or greater than what we expect?
One person may pass our "test" another may not!
But it's clear from the word of God that "ALL", "EVERYONE" - with no exceptions, have sinned.
Didn't those strutting Pharisees have to drop their rocks of condemnation when Jesus said: "He who is without sin cast the first stone?" John 8:7
They had prided themselves in their own goodness, as they dragged the adulterous woman before Jesus, but, under the scrutiny of His all-seeing eyes, their self righteousness was stripped away. Suddenly they became keenly aware of their own hidden sin.
When the Holy Spirit quickens our conscience and puts the spotlight on our failings, convicting us of sin - it's a blessing. It's done not to condemn us, but to make us run to the only remedy - the cross of Jesus.
Don't you just love this passage? Isn't it music to the sinner's ears?
We're made right with God by believing in Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
Running to the haven of amazing grace - what a relief to know the joy of sins forgiven.
Jesus doesn't want us to drag our guilt around like a ball and chain. He died so that we could be free of condemnation.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and are called according to His purposes
Romans 8:1
If you have confessed your sin to Jesus, time to stop beating yourself up!
He's paid a debt that you never could.
