No equals

Exodus 20:3 AMPC

You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.

The first commandment states that God wants us to put Him first - not first among equals.

No one is to line up alongside Him and vie for our loyalty and worship.

As Jesus said:

Matthew 6:24 AMPC

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon ( deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).

There is great deliberation going on about the upcoming Coronation Oath.

Historically it has always been a Christian ceremony, but, our "soon to be crowned king", Charles argues that Britain now is a mixed faith country and so other religions should partake in the ceremony!

The God who said "no other before or beside Me", will be enraged at such a impotent and polluted oath.

Just a brief reading of the books of Kings and Chronicles in the Old Testament will plainly show the consequences of mixing other faiths with God.

It never did and never can bring blessing on a nation.

Sadly the norm in this land is "tolerance" and "compromise".

We allow anything as long as it doesn't affect our comfortable lifestyles.

LGBTQ+ - no problem, transgender ideology - no problem.

We've repealed blasphemy laws, so the name of Jesus is no longer venerated in our government.

But touch our bank balances and material possessions - then we begin to shout.

Where is the zeal for the One True God?

Mark 12:29-31 NLT

Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: 'Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. [30] And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' [31] The second is equally important: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these."

It may seem "fair" to allow other religions an equal part in the coronation oath and in our laws, but it doesn't hold water with what Jesus said.

Personally, I do well to examine my own heart to see what is vying for primacy in my life.

Jesus must be exclusively FIRST - not "first" among equals.
