Luke 17:7-10 NLT
"When a servant comes in from ploughing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, 'Come in and eat with me'? [8] No, he says, 'Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.' [9] And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. [10] In the same way, when you obey me you should say, 'We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.'"
There's absolutely no room for pride in God's Kingdom.
This parable puts everyone in their place.
Somehow we get it into our heads that the Lord owes us something when we do some good deeds or help someone out.
It couldn't be further from the truth.
There are no Brownie-points dished out by God for simply doing what's expected of us.
When we become united with Jesus through the Cross service should be the expected norm.
Being a follower of Christ means imitating His life of service.
John 13:12-16 NLT
After washing their feet, He put on His robe again and sat down and asked, "Do you understand what I was doing? [13] You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and you are right, because that's what I am. [14] And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. [15] I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. [16] I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.
Of course we come up short multiple times in our lives. So, we are at best unprofitable servants.
Let Jesus get all the honour and praise for it all belongs to Him.
