No boasting

Judges 6:12,15 AMPC

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, The Lord is with you, you mighty man of [fearless] courage. [15] Gideon said to Him, Oh Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my clan is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.

Judges 7:2 AMPC

The Lord said to Gideon, The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel boast about themselves against Me, saying, My own hand has delivered me.

The Lord often chooses to work through ones that seem unsuited to the task.

My heart really warms to Gideon, a reluctant "hero"!

I think he would've much rather stayed in the background living a quiet life, but God chose him precisely because he was an unlikely candidate for a leader.

That meant people would look at him and realise it was God working through him, as he was no "superman".

So the Lord gets the glory.

Indeed, there was a moment when God's spirit transformed him:

Judges 6:34 AMPC

But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with Himself and took possession of him, and he blew a trumpet, and [the clan of] Abiezer was gathered to him.

Be encouraged if you have a poor opinion of yourself. You are exactly who Jesus is looking for!

He can work through you in a mighty way to demonstrate His power.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 AMPC

[No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. [28] And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are, [29] So that no mortal man should [have pretense for glorying and] boast in the presence of God.

There is no room for boasting in God's Presence.
