Mark 2:21-22 AMPC
No one sews a patch of new goods on an old garment; if he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and the tear becomes bigger and worse [than it was before].
And no one puts new wine into old wine skins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the bottles destroyed; but new wine is to be put in new wine skins.
The new shed is up, but is quite bare inside. It really could do with lining the walls with some sort of panelling to insulate it from the cold in winter.
As the pieces of the old shed were still laying around, we attempted to use some of them instead of getting new ones - but, after some abortive effort, we concluded that the new and the old didn't go together.
No matter how much cleaning and tidying, the old panels were damaged and warped with damp and spoiled the look of the new shed.
Forgive me if I am looking in a different way at the sayings of Jesus!
Perhaps Jesus is referring to His New Covenant of love compared with the Old Covenant of the Law?
The Old and the New don't mix. The Old is inflexible and leads to death, the New is vibrant and brings life.
Also compare our new life in Jesus with our old life before following Him - if we try to retain some pieces of our old way of being and doing we will eventually contaminate the new heart which Jesus has given us.
Psalm 51:10 AMPC
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.
Revelation 21:5 AMPC
And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine).
Let's be joyful for the time that is to come when God will make all things new!
