2 Peter 3:8-13 NLT
But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. [9] The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. [10] But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. [11] Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, [12] looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, He will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. [13] But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth He has promised, a world filled with God's righteousness.
God has great plans ahead for us.
The end of this current earth is to be destroyed by fire.
That is written and cannot be changed - even by "Extinction Rebellion"... (an appropriate name by the way).
Of course, Satan (the originator of rebellion against the Lord) is very anxious to preserve the earth as it is, in its fallen state.
He knows full well that when this current creation goes, he goes with it, to eternal damnation.
As his demise is certain, he wants as many to perish with him as possible and blind people to the reality of Jesus.
The world wants to "save the planet", Jesus wants to save people and make them new creations, in His image, fit for eternity in the new earth and heavens.
That should be our focus too.
Live lives that point like signposts to Jesus.
This chaotic world is trying to concoct a new, multi faith religion where everyone has their own truth.
But there is only One salvation through the cross of Jesus.
Let's be ready for the new earth, it's going to be "out of this world"!
Isaiah 65:17 NLT
"Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.
