Philippians 3:20
But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Saviour. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control.
Fellow believers, did you know that you are living in a foreign land?
You and I are aliens abroad, we don't belong here!
Well, you say: "this is my home town, I've lived here all my life! I'm British, or Kentish...."
Oh no you're not - Paul reminds us that, through Jesus, we have changed our nationality!
We are now citizens of Heaven - that's our new homeland.
Much like Australians that have been stranded away from their land by the coronavirus restrictions, we too are waiting for our "flight" to be called, so we can go home!
The Bible promises us that:
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 AMPC
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first. [17] Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord!
Yes, we are waiting for that "beam me up Scotty" moment!
It sounds like science fiction, doesn't it - but, in fact - it's a promise of the future by Jesus Himself!
For those of us with failing physical abilities, it is sweet music to our ears.
Swapping our mortal bodies for eternally young, indestructible ones like Jesus had when resurrected, is fantastic!
Pain will be a thing of the past! Sadness too!
1 Thessalonians 4:18 AMPC
Therefore comfort and encourage one another with these words.
