National leaders

1 Timothy 2:1-4 AMPC

First of all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men, [2] For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way. [3] For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior, [4] Who wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth.

So we Brits have a new king.

It seems really strange to say it, after so long having our devoted Queen as head of state.

The question comes to mind:

"Does God really care about or is He interested in national leaders? Does it matter who is in charge of a nation?"

Even a trivial reading of scripture reminds us that there are huge ramifications for the nation if a leader is good or bad.

Reef through the books of Kings and Chronicles and note what happened to Israel and Judah during reigns of different leaders. See how it affected the population.

So we, and, particularly I, should make it part of my prayer life to pray for the country's leaders.

I confess that I have failed to do this most of the time.

To my great shame, I'd much rather "throw stones from the sidelines", when leaders are not to my liking.

The passage above makes it clear that the result of praying for our leaders will cause peaceful lives!

It's time to cover our leaders with prayer and call on the Lord for more Godly leaders in places of influence.

Father God, at this time of immense change for our land, please pour out Your Holy Spirit on our leaders and, particularly, on our new king, that his reign will be hallmarked with love and compassion. May he find a close walk with Jesus, as the weight of responsibility falls on his shoulders. May You guide and direct his thoughts and actions with wisdom and kindness. Please surround him with Godly and wise counsellors, in Jesus' name.
