Misunderstood holiness

Isaiah 6:1-3 AMPC

In the year that King Uzziah died, [in a vision] I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and the skirts of His train filled the [most holy part of the] temple. [2] Above Him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two [each] covered his [own] face, and with two [each] covered his feet, and with two [each] flew. [3] And one cried to another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!

God is wholly holy.

What was it He said when Moses approached the Burning Bush? "Take off your shoes for you are standing on holy ground"! Exodus 3:5

As sinful human beings we are rather put off by what we perceive to be holiness. It smacks of unattainable perfection and we are all too aware of our own failings.

So holiness has gotten a bad name down the ages. If someone calls you "holier than thou", they are not being complimentary. They are suggesting that you are a kill-joy, part pooper - too solemn and serious for your own good.

They usually want you to "loosen up a little" and drop your standards and values.

How can we better understand the wonder God's holiness?

It's not an easy task.. in fact it took God vacating Heaven.. coming to live among us before we could understand Him properly.

His holiness strips away all pretence and is an all revealing light.

What did Peter say to Jesus when he first encountered Jesus' divine power?

Luke 5:8 AMPC

But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

But Jesus doesn't want us to go away from Him. The very opposite is true.

Much like when our beloved dog comes back from a walk covered in mud - Jesus wants to wash us before we come into His House. Some dogs don't like being washed and try to push past into the house unwashed. It would be unfair to let them, for they defile it for others.

So with us - if we could only see the way we are covered with sin and selfishness - we would run to be washed clean by Jesus' Precious Blood, the only full proof sin remover!

Don't misunderstand God's holiness. Everything about Him is perfect: perfect love, light, fairness and beauty.

Aren't you filled with wonder at a majestic waterfall, a mountain, a wild flower? It's so perfect, unspoilt - almost holy. That same wonder should fill us when we gaze on the person of Jesus Christ.

Instead of cringing away, come towards our Holy Lord Jesus who loves You with a Holy Love, untainted and pure and never ending.

Don't misunderstand, but be grateful for His Holiness. Without it, Heaven wouldn't be Heaven.

Surrender and be washed clean by Jesus and come on into His Presence to party like never before!
