Mirror

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

James 1:22-25

I caught myself reading the Word today and suddenly realised that my mind was on something else. I was sifting through the tasks I had to do today. Just like this passage says, forgetting what I'd read.

The Bible is a life-changing book only when taken to heart.

Cursory glances won't produce the results we crave in our lives.

An interesting exercise is to compare the time spent reading the news, watching movies, surfing the net - with the time dedicated to Jesus and His Word?

What percentage of the day does Jesus get of my day?

I wonder what it would look like if the Lord presented daily graphs of my time and dedication?

Wasting time comes so easily, there's no need for effort.

Conversely, if I really want to follow Jesus, I have to devote time.

Watching Emma Raducanu win the US Open - it looked so effortless, but behind the scenes, her discipline and training regime brought about success.

Similarly, Cristiano Ronaldo, has a strict fitness discipline, which has extended his football career.

Those sports personalities exert themselves for some transitory fame. Our lives with the Lord will last into eternity. So we too need diligence to keep in step with Jesus and build our lives on Him.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

So be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good.

Ephesians 5:15-16
