Matthew 22:14 AMPC
For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.
This verse is a "biggy" on which theologians have pontificated since the preaching of Jesus' message began.
Having read up on these "expert" explanations I'm still left with a spiritual question mark.
Somehow it doesnt add up that God "chooses" some and not others.
Then I go to scriptures like:
Romans 9:13 AMPC
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated (held in relative disregard in comparison with My feeling for Jacob).
...and I'm further in the spiritual fog.
My conclusion is this - to realise that I cannot, in this present life, comprehend the ways of God:
Isaiah 55:8-9 AMPC
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
None of us should preen ourselves because we're "chosen", it's all of God's mercy and grace in Christ Jesus.
Romans 9:14-15 AMPC
What shall we conclude then? Is there injustice upon God's part? Certainly not! [15] For He says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion (pity) on whom I will have compassion.
Let's keep banging that gospel drum because we never know who will respond from their hearts to Jesus' invite.
