Lion of the tribe of Judah

Revelation 5:5

Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’

At times in our lives we cry out to God for justice as it looks like the wicked get off scot free!

There is coming a season, however, when the day of God's vengeance will be meted out.

When Jesus read from the scroll of Isaiah 61:2 He stopped in mid verse: "to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour"... He was then proclaiming the season of the Lord's favour. The second half of the verse was left for the end of the age: "and the day of vengeance of our God,"..

However, the time to fulfill the whole prophecy is coming.

We have seen Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the World".

Yet that Lamb is also a Lion as it says in our passage for today. There is a side to Jesus that is angry at evil. You only have to look at Him when he chased out the money changers from the Temple.

He and He only is worthy to break open the scroll which will loose the days of the wrath of God on the earth.

The same Lamb who stood silent before His accusers to be crucified is getting ready to roar against His enemies.

Those who stand and thumb their noses at the thought of God or pervert His Truth will have a rude awakening. No one can stand arrogant before an enraged lion. No wonder we are told EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Some will do it gladly in adoration, but others will do it in fear and trembling.

Luke 3:7-9

John said to the crowds coming out to be baptised by him, ‘You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, “We have Abraham as our father.” For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The axe has been laid to the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.’

These are tough words, not often focused on in these days of "cheap grace"!

The same Jesus who has gifted us that grace will be the One to judge the earth and bring God's wrath upon those who reject His favour.

Don't be one of those who will face the roar of the Lion of the tribe of Judah!

Amos 3:8

The lion has roared—

who will not fear?

The Sovereign Lord has spoken—

who can but prophesy?
