Psalm 119:105 NKJV
Your Word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Tucked away in this gigantic Psalm is a tiny verse with mammoth implications for life.
My nearest and dearest, with the best of intentions towards me, crept to the bathroom without turning on the light. He didn't want to disturb my night's sleep.
The consequences were dire. He tripped over our dog, banged his head on the bathroon doorpost. Said dog yelped in pain and fright. Inevitably, I was awakened and put on the light. There was a scene to behold.
He was pouring with blood from a deep cut on his head and my beloved dog was cowering in fear.
The carpet was bloodstained as if a murder had taken place!
All this because he decided to walk in darkness.
The outcome was that we bought a torch for his night time travels! He's safe as long as he uses it...
How many of us believers in Jesus stumble in the dark because we don't use the torch God's Word to navigate in this world?
Is it laziness - not knowing the Bible well enough? Or is it compromise, not wanting to disturb or offend anyone?
Is that why we stumble over issues like "assisted suicide", abortion, same sex relationships and gender fluidity?
If we "rightly divide" God's Truth as laid out in 2 Timothy 2:15, then we will not stumble over the moral "sleeping dogs" in our path and help others to wake up to reality.
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
We are called to be "light bearers":
Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
