1 John 1:5 AMPC
And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].
Ian McCormack had been stung by box jelly fish, filling him with so many neuro toxins that he died. It's an amazing testimony how he was drawn up to the tunnel of light.
Many who have had a near death experience tell of that tunnel of light. Why? The verse before us today tells that "God is light".
There's absolutely no darkness in Him at all.
Ian then goes on to tell of his encounter with Jesus.
He says waves of pure light emanate from Him [Jesus] and those waves of light literally hit him with love, joy, peace, forgiveness and acceptance.
That was Ian's experience, but it dovetails with what the Bible has to say - that's vital. Any experience that people tell of God, MUST line up with scripture.
He tells how that light revealed everything about him. He couldn't hide anything from Jesus. He realised how much he had messed up in his life. Morever, Jesus knew all about him, every little secret sin or nasty thought he had ever had. Yet He still loved Ian.
Isn't it amazing for us too? God knows everything about us, but still loves us?
The nearer we come to the light of Jesus, the more aware we are of our own unworthiness and sin.
Paul, on the road to Damascus - a man bent on destroying followers of Jesus, was stopped in his tracks by the blinding light from Heaven. He discovered that God is light.
We are called to walk in the light and ensure that we are continually cleansed by the blood of Jesus:
1 John 1:6-7
So if we say we are his friends but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying. But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin.
Today, Jesus, I need forgiveness for going astray into darkness. Please cleanse and restore me to Your Light Path, through Your Precious Blood.
