Keeping each other sharp

Proverb 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

In my kitchen drawer, among the many different implements, I have a knife sharpener. It's made of the same steel as knives or scissors and, when the blade becomes blunt, I simply drag it across the sharpener, and, hey presto, it's sharp again.

This proverb likens friends to a sharpener. Our friends have a huge influence in our lives. It can be for good or bad.

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Corinthians 15:33

Therefore we should ask the Lord to place us with friends who can sharpen us in our walk with Jesus. And, who, we too, can shape for the Kingdom of God.

We don't always have the wisdom to choose good companions, but if we leave the choice up to God, He will put us together with folk who will build up and not destroy.

Looking back, I can see God's Hand in making good and lasting connections with friends who have stood the test of time.

Keep close to Jesus, and you'll be a good sharpener!

Above all, Jesus is the Best Friend you can ever find and, mixing with Him each and every day will sharpen your love walk and ensure that you sharpen others around you for good.

Proverbs 18:24 There are “friends” who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

John 15:15

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

How marvellous that Jesus now calls us His Friends!

Go out into Monday, rejoicing in the fact that you are friends with the King of kings and Lord of lords!

Think you're not good enough? Remember Jesus was called the friend of sinners!!
