23 There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. 26 He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honour in heaven. 27 Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. 28 The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.
Hebrews 7
In courtroom dramas, whether real or fictional, the lawyers play a crucial part in the trial. Sometimes the accused try to defend themselves, but it usually ends in disaster.
Each day we are "the accused" in the courts of heaven. Satan comes before God the Father with claims against us and sometimes the case file can be piled high with our failures.
But we have the best Lawyer in the Cosmos - the Lord Jesus.
He meets Satan's accusations with a wave of His nail-scarred hands!
He says "Yes, they did what you said, but I have paid their penalty!
I have wiped their slate clean!
Jesus has never lost a case!
31What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honour at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
Romans 8
You may have read these passages many times before, but they are sweet music to this sinner's ear!
Jesus is on my case and ever more will be pleading for me.
I got off Scot free, declared not guilty. You can too!
Have you asked Jesus to be on your case?
