Psalm 142:4 NKJV
Look on my right hand and see, For there is no one who acknowledges me; Refuge has failed me; No one cares for my soul.
We dwell in a world where we are obsessed with preserving the physical body.
We live on repeat medications, religiously queue for vaccines, flee to the local surgery at the first sign of discomfort - petrified of cancer, heart attacks or strokes.
Our bodies dictate so much of daily life, yet these physical "shells" are mortal. Once the spirit expires and vacates that shell, only the soul and spirit remains.
So I ask how much care has been taken of my soul?
Here, in this Psalm, David exclaims "no one cares for my soul" - he looks around for help and solace, but finds nothing to fulfill the inner thirst for safety, belonging and true meaning.
Trying to cram our essential self with the pursuit of material gain will eventually be a cul-de-sac of disappointed futility.
Mark 8:36-37 NKJV
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? [37] Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Recently Liam Payne, a wealthy and famous pop star, died in the throws of a drug fuelled overdose.
Materially he had climbed to the top of the fame ladder and had the adulation of many fans worldwide - but his soul was empty and tortured.
He desperately needed the words of Jesus and His divine intervention, healing and restoration of his sin-sick soul.
There are many such tragic examples.
Wake up and realise that the thirst inside can only be quenched by the Living God.
Psalm 63:1 NKJV
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
Jesus cares for the essential you that will outlast your physical body.
He cares so much that He willingly laid down His Perfect Essence in spiritual agony, poured out as an offering to redeem, restore and rescue each one of us.
Jesus cares for my and your soul right now, in this moment.
Can you sense it? Will you respond to His yearning?
I hope and pray that you do.
John 4:13-14 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, [14] but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."
