Psalm 136:1-9
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.
This Psalm is for anyone who wakes up wondering if God still loves them!
Maybe you've messed up badly and wonder if God can forgive you this time.
So saying it once won't do - you need reminding over and over again, until the voice of the accuser on your shoulder is drowned out!
It underlines, shouts from the housetops, emphasises that there is no end to the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord.
You can come to Him, His arms are open wide to welcome you home to Himself.
Picture how Jesus tells it, in the parable of the prodigal son:
Luke 15:20 AMPC
So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity and tenderness for him; and he ran and embraced him and kissed him.
While we are "a long way off", Father God runs to meet us!
Stevie Wonder wrote a song "As" on his album "Songs in the key of life". It always puts me in mind of this Psalm.
The lyrics, seem to me, to be written like God singing to us, His children:
Jesus wants you to know this, that's why He gave His life for you! What more can He do to prove it?
You can "boogie" out into your day, strong in the security of the never ending love of the Lord:
