Isaiah 43:1-2 NLT

But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. [2] When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

The LA fires have brought huge devastation and loss of life and property.

Imagine all that you've worked for burned up in minutes, totally consumed by the raging inferno driven in by extreme winds.

Lord have mercy!

What is left after the tangible is taken away? - Trauma, brokeness, anxiety in a chaotic churning of emotion, that's what these people are dealing with right now.

In the midst of all this, believers in Jesus have God's promise that He is with them in this tragedy.

The God whose Name is Immanuel - meaning GOD WITH US is a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46).

What was meant for evil, the Lord can turn round and use to bring many to faith.

Let's pray that the Holy Spirit will empower the fire fighters, the rescue workers, ordinary people who just want to help as they combat this real and present danger.

As reality dawns from the ashes of the shock may the Lord turn hearts towards Him through the love and compassion of His people.

Father God we gather our thoughts and prayers and reach out by Your Spirit to those who have gone through such terrible loss. We can hardly comprehend what it must be like. Please garner the right help, the right action, the right people to help comfort and rebuild their lives. This we ask in Jesus Name.
