Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Isaiah 40:28-29
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Come on now, be honest, sometimes life seems a bit overwhelming and it seems much easier to throw the duvet over the head and hide from the day!
Also at the end of a challenging day, it's as much as you can do, to summon the strength to drag yourself into bed.
Especially as we grow longer in the tooth, life can appear more and more daunting.
Isn't it then so wonderful to read the passage before us today and gaze in wonder at the Omnipotent Lord we serve.
I recall being a very small child, many, many years ago - making the long trip "oop north" to see the paternal grandparents. This was before the M25 made the journey more palatable and my mum and dad had to negotiate the car across London. Leaving late in the evening after dad had finished work - I remember being very sleepy. So they pulled off the road and mum tucked me up in a blanket on the back seat, while they soldiered on up the M1 to our destination in the early hours.
What's the analogy here? Well, God is not tired, He is in charge of our journey through life. When we feel absolutely drained of ability and strength, our Heavenly Father, steps in and increases our strength in some miraculous way.
Here are some scriptures to encourage our weary selves in our Lord:
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
2 Corinthians 12:9 My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
1 Corinthians 1:27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
If you're feeling insignificant and unequal to the task today, remind yourself that God chose you deliberately in order to demonstrate His Immense Strength.
