I love the Lord

Psalm 116

1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;

he heard my cry for mercy.

2 Because he turned his ear to me,

I will call on him as long as I live.

3 The cords of death entangled me,

the anguish of the grave came over me;

I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:

“Lord, save me!”

5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;

our God is full of compassion.

6 The Lord protects the unwary;

when I was brought low, he saved me.

I am confident that the Lord is on the case of all who are in trouble.

Although I don't see it - I know it - because God never changes:

"His compassions, they fail not " says the old hymn, quoting from Lamentations 3:22

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

Even if people do die, their death is a doorway to glory, as they trust in the Lord. The Lord sees them:

Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.

As I woke this morning, the Lord brought this Psalm to my heart. It has comforted me on many occasions, particularly when my lovely mum died.

We were summoned suddenly to the hospital by the crash team but didn't make it in time.

That verse has been a comfort ever since.

We may see awful scenes of death and destruction, but God is there. His eyesight penetrates the smoke of bombs.

And, as this life is snatched away from so many, when they cry out to Him, He ushers them into new horizons of eternal life.

I love the Lord!
