How to survive and thrive

Proverbs 3:5-10 AMPC

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. [6] In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. [7] Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil. [8] It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones. [9] Honour the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labours] and with the first fruits of all your income; [10] So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine.

So many issues threaten our peace of mind and security in these uncertain times.

Heating bills, the cost of food, the threat of war, the spectre of disease and unemployment, they dance together in our minds, producing a fog of uncertainty.

Returning to a central trust in the Lord is the only way to restore our equilibrium.

Without that childlike trust in Jesus we fall apart at the seams.

Jesus poses the question:

"When I return, will I find faith on the earth?"

How well have I guarded my own heart against deception and doubt?

Will Jesus find faith in my heart? What if he came right now? What "octane" of trust is running in my spiritual veins?

I used to use the cheapest diesel in my car, until I broke down with a blocked fuel pump. Now when I fill up with diesel, I use the V-power - it's more expensive, but, in the long run, it preserves and cleans the engine and gives more MPG.

So I must fill up with V-power trust in the Lord - I must guard against following my own understanding, which waters down my faith.

Trust in the Lord with ALL my heart, ALL my understanding, ALL my wealth, ALL my behaviour and ALL my time - that's V-power!!!

What a challenge! Certainly, I'm not there yet...
