How can this be?

Luke 1:18-20 NLT

Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I be sure this will happen? I'm an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years."

Then the angel said, "I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was He who sent me to bring you this good news! [20] But now, since you didn't believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time."

Humans have discovered and invented so many amazing things and these are far past the average person's comprehension.

I ask myself "Can I explain electricity? Can I understand how a computer performs its functions? Could I split the atom?"

If I am so far from understanding human capabilities, how much more God's supreme omniscience?

Zechariah questioned Gabriel's prophetic message, for Elizabeth and he, much like Abram and Sarai, were well on in years and barren.

It looked ridiculous that they should have a child at their age.

Then there's Mary...

Luke 1:30-34 NLT

"Don't be afraid, Mary," the angel told her, "for you have found favour with God! [31] You will conceive and give birth to a Son, and you will name Him Jesus. [32] He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His ancestor David. [33] And He will reign over Israel forever; His Kingdom will never end!" [34] Mary asked the angel, "But how can this happen? I am a virgin."

Good question Mary - how on earth could this happen, because "on earth" it couldn't!

Luke 1:35-37 NKJV

And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. [36] Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. [37] For with God nothing will be impossible."

Don't you love verse 37? I do.

The only thing that is impossible for God is "nothing".

He's ALWAYS on the move - creating, birthing and expanding the Cosmos.

The "overshadowing" that conceived Jesus in Mary's virginal womb takes place in every life when we are spiritually reborn.

How it happens who can understand? But that doesn't make it any less real.

The Holy Spirit is constantly overshadowing people around the globe bringing new born Christians into eternal life.

Incomprehensible happenings abound when the Holy Spirit is at work.

John 3:3-6 NLT

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God." [4] "What do you mean?" exclaimed Nicodemus. "How can an old man go back into his mother's womb and be born again?" [5] Jesus replied, "I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. [6] Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

Is it your time to be "overshadowed"? I pray so!
