Hope for the helpless

Psalm 10:16-18

The Lord is king forever and ever!

The godless nations will vanish from the land.

Lord, You know the hopes of the helpless.

Surely You will hear their cries and comfort them.

You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.

In this day of global giants welding enormous influence, dictating the way we do things - it's easy to feel absolutely helpless - at the mercy of the powers that be.

If you read the whole of this Psalm it shows how these merciless ones, greedy for gain, think they will never be found out!

They bargain without God.

They even sneer at the thought that God sees all and will act.

For all those who are downtrodden by fear and circumstances beyond your control: know that there is an Ultimate Power that is Almighty, who won't be thwarted.

The Lord loves justice, it's part of His character.

Isaiah 61:8

For I, the LORD, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering and make an everlasting covenant with them.

He WILL take things into His own hands as we call on Him.

He listens, He hears and looks for a "Moses" to lead out the oppressed from slavery.

Isaiah 59:16

He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm, and his justice sustained him.

Of course, we know that the ultimate Saviour is our Lord Jesus Christ - God sent Him to bring us ETERNAL help. Nevertheless, there is a time when God chooses a special person to bring down the proud and haughty.

Look at the past, for us in the UK, we had Winston Churchill. Not a man that his fellow politicians warmed to - but he was God's man for the time.

Don't be afraid, God is in charge!
