2 Corinthians 11:1-4 NLT
I hope you will put up with a little more of my foolishness. Please bear with me. [2] For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God Himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband - Christ. [3] But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. [4] You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.
There it was, a small gatekeeper butterfly, struggling to extracate itself from a spider's web in our garden.
The more it fluttered its wings, the more entangled it became.
With my intense hatred of spiders, and love of butterflies, I came to the rescue, pulling the sticky web away from its wings, freeing it from the evil design of the spider.
Said spider was concealed somewhere, but it had spent hours weaving its deadly trap, all over the place, hiding in plain sight.
Only at certain angles of sunlight could the vast complex of web be seen - but, to most butterflies and bees the web was invisible - only when they flew into it unawares did they realise it was there. By that time it was usually too late.
Thankfully I was on hand to let that butterfly go free and then I set about destroying the web, brushing it away.
Satan has patiently weaved his deceptions into society - even into the church, and, much like that garden spider, he hides in plain sight.
Matthew 24:23-25 AMPC
If anyone says to you then, Behold, here is the Christ (the Messiah)! or, There He is!-do not believe it. [24] For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (God's chosen ones). [25] See, I have warned you beforehand.
Now, more than ever, we must be alert to subtle deceptions that are like webs weaved to catch and destroy us.
It is vital that we know and rightly use God's Word to avoid the spider's web of lies that Satan has weaved in this world.
2 Timothy 2:15 AMPC
Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analysing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.
