Heavy heart

Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day,

or like vinegar poured on a wound,

is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

Proverbs 25:20

So many fearful, sad, lonely and heavy hearted people surround us today.

As we near Christmas, those who have lost loved ones, feel the dagger of grief plunge even deeper into their hearts.

In order to show love, we need to be sensitive to the feelings of others, especially toward those who are heavy hearted.

To act with trivial cheerfulness around them will only exacerbate their despair.

Like the Proverb tells us, the effect is like pouring vinegar on a wound - ouch - it really stings!

May Jesus give us sensitivity and grace to see and understand those who are hurting at this time.

May we have words and acts that are healing and comforting, pouring in loving-kindness.

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

Romans 12:15

I might feel really cheerful, but need to sense whether it is appropriate to show it around a heavy hearted person.
