He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Revelation 22:20
Last night we had a Zoom meeting with friends to celebrate the New Year.
We were all apart and separated - some by a mile or so and one by thousands of miles!
During the many speeches, songs and jokes, we talked about being together again.
Of course we're waiting for my nearest and dearest's passport to be returned. He can't come until that time.
Someone piped up: "We're longing to see you, big man. It's not the same without you here."
Then we planned a big party when we're allowed to be together again.
Here in the last chapter of Revelation we are told that Jesus is going to return. Do we long for that day?
My devotional book asks "have you ever told Jesus how you are longing to see him? Have you ever imagined what it will be like to look into His Face? Have you planned what your response will be?"
Or, have we become so resigned to the status quo of this earthly life that His Return seems like an ancient forlorn promise lost in the mists of time?
It's easy to get discouraged in long, drawn out, waiting for something to happen.
We know it personally with the passport issue. Waiting to be reunited is difficult. Skype, WhatsApp and Zoom are a blessing, but it's not like being together.
So with times of prayer and fellowship with Jesus - as precious as these are, there's nothing like seeing Him face to face.
How many still believe He's coming back?
Jesus asks:
Luke 18:8 But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” Keep the flame of faith burning. God, the Father knows the day and hour He will send Jesus back.
We know each day, hour and second hastens that time.
Prayer As this New Year starts, Abba Father we pray that soon You will release Jesus to return and set this world right again. Quicken our hearts, weary with waiting, Holy Spirit of expectancy! Come back Lord Jesus.
His coming is as certain as the dawn! Hosea 6:3
