1 Peter 1:3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
Well, let's start the day with asking myself a question:
"What am I expecting today?"
Honestly, I realise that, on so many days, I subconsciously expect negative stuff!
My expectations set me up to fail much of the time!
Example: when the brown envelopes from HM Revenue & Customs pop through the letterbox, there is a vague feeling of dread before opening!
Peter speaks of believers in Jesus having "great expectations" even in the midst of fiery trials.
Meaning lifting our eyes away from the mundane to the eternal.
Jesus is storing up a precious and exciting inheritance for those who trust and follow Him.
Though we may have some dread to face in this current day, taking the long view will brighten our horizon - just as the noonday sun burns away the clouds in summer.
Father God, please teach me to have great expectations in You and to realise that I am guarded and protected by your love through Jesus.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
