Psalm 103:15-17 AMPC
As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. [16] For the wind passes over it and it is gone, and its place shall know it no more. [17] But the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, and His righteousness is to children's children-
My WhatsApp was greeted with an early morning photo.
It was of my nearest and dearest's reunion in 2008.
There were 4 smiling people, 3 of whom have sadly passed away.
Really, we are just like the grass (ours is looking pretty poor right now) - we spring up, have our time of blooming, and, so quickly fade away, without hope in Jesus.
Isaiah 40 puts it like this:
“All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. 7 The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.
I love the "buts" in the Bible - our frail human bodies will fade and die, but we, who put our trust in Jesus, have the Hope that never disappoints!
My lovely mum died 19 years ago yesterday. "19 years in Heaven with Jesus already"...
Absent from the body, present with the Lord:
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
Be so very glad that, even when we leave this mortal body, we will be at home with Jesus.
At present, the news is full of the fight that Archie's parents have had to stop his life support being turned off.
He's only 12 years old and has been in a coma for months. Sadly, this morning, the court ruled, his life support will be withdrawn.
It's heartbreaking for the family.
Pray that Jesus will take him straight to be with Him.
Let's also pray that there will be a turning to Jesus for all who are without hope.
