Job 14:7-12 NKJV
"For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that its tender shoots will not cease. [8] Though its root may grow old in the earth, And its stump may die in the ground, [9] Yet at the scent of water it will bud And bring forth branches like a plant. [10] But man dies and is laid away; Indeed he breathes his last And where is he? [11] As water disappears from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dries up, [12] So man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more, They will not awake Nor be roused from their sleep.
James Whale is a Talk presenter. He has been a reasonably famous DJ down the years. Although he has terminal cancer, he continues to present his show, dealing with various controversial issues.
One thing he continually states is that he deeply hates all forms of religion.
He is an atheist of the highest degree and emphasises that, in his opinion, religion is the cause of the conflicts in this world.
He is "godlessly hopeless", knowing that his death is very near. He believes that he has no future, as the above passage from Job relates.
This is Satan's biggest lie, draining all hope and meaning from existence.
With this in mind what motivation can anyone extract from daily hum-drum life?
As Ecclesiastes says:
Ecclesiastes 1:2 NLT
"Everything is meaningless," says the Teacher, "completely meaningless!"
Compare this with the words of Jesus:
John 10:10 NKJV
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 11:25-26 NKJV
Jesus said to her, "I Am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. [26] And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Religion kills, so does atheism, but a living, breathing, daily relationship with Jesus not only enhances this life, but points to a greater one up ahead.
Pray for all who are stuck in godless hopelessness - that the Holy Spirit will breathe the fresh air of the Gospel of Jesus into their spiritual lungs.
