Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,11 AMPC
To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven: [2] A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted, [3] A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up, [4] A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, [5] A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, [6] A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away, [7] A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak, [8] A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. [11] He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men's hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.
Last night we watched a documentary on Sir Alex Ferguson, detailing what he went through following his brain haemorrhage back in 2018. He was 76 at the time. This formidable character was reduced to tears and the fear of losing his memory, even his life. Underneath the veneer of invincibility he is just one of us, subject to the march of time.
As we move through our lives we come to realise there is a season for everything.
The years change us, our bodies begin to deteriorate, no matter what steps we take to avert it.
Trying to turn back the time is like King Canute trying to hold back the waves of the sea.
We are all travelling toward one destination - from a time to be born to a time to die.
God has a timetable set for each one of us. He knows the days of our lives.
Because He is outside of time, He alone knows the end from the beginning.
Revelation 1:8 AMPC
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord God, He Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty (the Ruler of all).
Psalm 139:16 AMPC
Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in Your book all the days [of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them.
If you feel insignificant and vulnerable - look up - God sees you. He undertook the most radical act of divine love in order to include you in His timetable.
Jesus' death on the Cross is the meeting point for you to get onboard His Lifeboat.
What, you say, how can someone's death lead to life? Moreover, someone who died over 2,000 years ago! Sounds crazy doesn't it? Yet, God's ways are not our ways.
1 Corinthians 1:18 AMPC
For the story and message of the cross is sheer absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is the [manifestation of] the power of God.
The Lord has put a longing for eternal life in our hearts. That's why we try so hard to stave off the effects of aging - using Botox, hair dye and even plastic surgery.
Yet the Way to eternal life has been set by the Lord:
John 3:16 AMPC
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ( unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
Get with His timetable!
