God's supermarket

Isaiah 55:1-2 AMPC

Wait and listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing]. [2] Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy].

Imagine walking into Sainsbury's to find everything was free!

I think we'd all turn round and get the biggest shopping trolley available and fill it to the brim.

However, it's the reverse right now - each week we find that items have sneaked up a few pence.

A trolley load that cost £50 last year, probably costs at least £60.

Our earthly costs are soaring.

Yet, in the midst of all this lack, God is calling out to us from His Word:

“Hey there! All who are thirsty,

come to the water!

Are you penniless?

Come anyway—buy and eat!

Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk.

Buy without money—everything’s free!

Why do you spend your money on junk food,

your hard-earned cash on cotton candy?

Listen to me, listen well: Eat only the best,

fill yourself with only the finest.

Pay attention, come close now,

listen carefully to my life-giving, life-nourishing words.

I’m making a lasting covenant commitment with you,

the same that I made with David: sure, solid, enduring love.

The world's top goods cost loads of money - you have to earn "top dollar" to buy it... but in God's "supermarket" everything is free.

Free, but more costly than anything this world has to offer.

In Jesus, forgiveness and eternal life is free, but it cost Him everything:

But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.

Jesus' ultimate sacrifice cost Him His lifeblood - He had to bear our sins and die for us, pouring out His precious blood, to give us free salvation.

If you've never visited God's supermarket, it's time to take the empty trolley of your life and fill it with the salvation and forgiveness Jesus offers freely to you, in His love.
