Isaiah 35:8 AMPC
And a highway shall be there, and a way; and it shall be called the Holy Way. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for the redeemed; the wayfaring men, yes, the simple ones and fools, shall not err in it and lose their way.
Oh! don't I love to do things "my" way... Frank Sinatra's famous song "I did it my way" is the signature tune for man's fatal rebellion against God.
It is the ancient "declaration of independence" against our Creator.
Ever since The Fall we are born with a "sin" based nature.
But God's Salvation Plan is to make a way, a high way in the desert of my fallen nature.
Like that desert flash flood, removing all the rubble and obstacles before it, so the Holy Spirit brings a change of nature through surrender to Jesus.
He will put me on His highway. I don't have to be a genius, I just have to stay on His "motorway" to avoid all the detours and diversions that Satan throws across my path in order to divert me from God's purposes.
Before the M25 was built, going "up north" meant negotiating the metropolis of London. Dad drove and mum was the navigator. I don't know how many rows or how many times we got lost, going round in circles, because we took the wrong route and London being a mass of confusing, tangled traffic.
Before Jesus came it was like that for mankind. We were lost, going round in circles of damnation.
He has made The Way for us to get to Heaven. His Holy Way through The Cross.
Small and weak and simple as I am, if I stay on His High Way, I am saved, I am redeemed from damnation.
Revelation echoes this verse, describing the New Jerusalem:
Revelation 21:27 AMPC
But nothing that defiles or profanes or is unwashed shall ever enter it, nor anyone who commits abominations (unclean, detestable, morally repugnant things) or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are recorded in the Lamb's Book of Life.
I'm so, so grateful to Jesus for writing down my name in His Book of Life.
