Psalm 103:9 AMPC
He will not always chide or be contending, neither will He keep His anger forever or hold a grudge.
Psalm 103:9 NLT
He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
Psalm 103:9 NKJV
He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
Psalm 103:9 TPT
You don't look at us only to find our faults, just so that You can hold a grudge against us.
My nearest and dearest has an amazing ability: after we've had a "fall-out" - he gets over very fast.
He may shout and be exceedly hot with anger, but it's quickly over with.
He even forgets what the spat was all about, while I'm still simmering away about it.
It's a fantastic quality which he shares with God!!
Yes, the Lord does get angry with us and it's always fully justified.
But He doesn't hold grudges and He "gets over it" completely.
His anger is displayed out of love and for our own good - to turn us around and wake us up to sin's destructive reality.
There's no nagging and throwing the past in our face after we've said sorry.
Replace the word "love" with Jesus in the verse below and you get the picture:
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Jesus dealt with God's anger against sin (mine and yours) on the Cross, so that we can enjoy full and free forgiveness in God's Presence.
I can come to Him with all my faults and failings to be washed and made new.
Like when my dog, Roki, has rolled in something foul. Of course, I'm cross with him for a while. But after he lets me wash him, he's fully restored to the house and I don't love him any less.
Father God, help us to understand your anger at sin, but love for each one of us. Give us humble and repentant hearts to let you wash us in Jesus' precious blood and be restored to Your presence. Help us "get over it" and not hold grudges against others and ourselves.
