Isaiah 30:15-16 AMPC
For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not, [16] And you said, No! We will speed [our own course] on horses!
The relentless pursuit of 'our own way" leads to nowhere. Yes, there may be some transitory pleasure, but it ends in emptiness and frustration.
Throughout history, the God who created us is constantly calling out trying to get our attention.
"But you would not" is the saddest thing we read in the verses today.
Fleetwood Mac wrote the song: "Go your own way"... here are some of the lyrics:
… If I could Baby, I'd give you my world
How can I
When you won't take it from me?
… You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
Those lyrics echo God's heart as He reaches out to be reconciled to each one of us.
Nothing but cosmic loneliness is the end result of going our own way - going away from the God who made us, redeemed us and so wants to hold us close.
In countless passages of the Old Testament, God is calling out for His people to listen and follow Him, but they would not.
They always thought they knew better!
I am no different - I see my own feeble attempts at independence dash me on the rocks of life.
It's a stern warning to my own soul: "don't go it alone!"
Follow Jesus, He IS the Way, the Truth and the Life.
