Psalm 136:1-3 NKJV
Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. [2] Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. [3] Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever:
I can't remember what it was about, but I said "I thank the Lord for that..." as we walked along chatting. "No need to thank the Lord", said my nearest and dearest, "you did it yourself."
I replied with undeniable emphasis: "There's ALWAYS a need to thank the Lord!"
There is!
We humans blithely live our lives taking God's daily mercies for granted: air to breathe, heart pumping, blood circulating, walking, sleeping, hearing, eyesight, touch, taste etc etc.
Jesus, when He healed ten lepers, was surprised that only one came back to say thank You. He asked "where are the other nine?"
Luke 17:17 NKJV
So Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
May I always be part of the one and not the nine!
Giving thanks keeps us in our rightful place - at the feet of the merciful God:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Let's finish this Sunday with the lovely song:
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ His Son
