Ephesians 5:14-18 AMPC
Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light. [15] Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), [16] Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. [17] Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. [18] And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.
These last few days of freezing weather it's been really difficult for our wood burner to produce enough heat for the conservatory. In fact it hardly brought the temperature up to 15 degrees!
So we need a lot of fuel for the fire. Log after log has to be piled up in order to give enough fuel for the fire to burn hot.
So we've retreated to the living room where it is warm and cosy with the central heating.
As the passage above warns us, we need to keep replenishing the Holy Spirit in our lives because of the evil days in which we live.
One "log" won't do, or the fire won't burn hot enough to keep us from growing cold in our faith.
Being ever filled with the Holy Spirit takes time and attention - prayer, studying God's Word and being grateful for the Lord's Presence with us is all part of stoking up the fire.
Yes, we need to keep physically warm in these cold days, but even more vital is to be on fire for Jesus.
