Fresh Oil

Ephesians 5:18 AMPC

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.

I love using plenty of garlic in cooking, making salads, in fact in anything savoury!

It's a bit of a faff, peeling off and crushing or chopping the clove, but there's no substitute that comes near it for taste.

Everyone is aware if you've eaten it!!

I've even been given a pristine new red & white mortar and pestle to give the clove a good pummelling!

My nearest and dearest loved to use ready crushed garlic paste. He kept it in the fridge and gradually it became discoloured and stale - a shadow of the fresh stuff.

What am I on about?

Just like that ready garlic paste, our walk with God can become refrigerated, tainted and stale.

Please don't be content with an experience of the Lord from the past.

We need "fresh oil" each and every day or our light will burn out and not burn on.

Perhaps that's the lesson from the parable of the wise and foolish virgins?

Some were well prepared with fresh oil, some let their lamps burn down while waiting for the bridegroom to appear.

Matthew 25

Being ever filled with the Holy Spirit can seem a stretch too far for us common mortals.

Surely that's for vicars, pastors, Bible teachers and evangelists? Not for little ol' me?

I'm partial to a glass or two of wine, but nothing compares to being close to Jesus empowered by the "fresh oil" of the Holy Spirit.

We CAN all have that, don't let Satan rob you.

Jesus said this:

John 7:38 AMPC

He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.

Anyone, yes anyone, who believes is entitled to have that living water, that fresh oil.

Fellow believer, don't be duped into running dry, absorb the promise that Jesus gives - get "tanked up" on Him!

Life in Jesus is meant to be lubricated with "fresh oil".

Prayer

Jesus You promised, so fill me with fresh oil today, so I can burn on and burn bright in the power of the Holy Spirit!
