Freedom

Zechariah 10:12

By My power I will make My people strong, and by My authority they will go wherever they wish. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

Freedom is something we don't appreciate until it's curtailed.

How much did we take for granted getting on a plane without a myriad of tests and with unmasked faces?

We could plan wherever we wanted to go on holiday, only restricted by budget.

Going to the cinema or sports event - without a thought of catching something, we took for granted.

Mixing with whoever and whenever we wanted was a freedom we never thought could ever be snatched away.

Now we are nearly 2 years in on intermittent curbs on our activities and looking down the barrel of a two tiered society.

How reinvigorating then is God's promise of freedom.

The same Lord who created us with free will, promises us real freedom.

Jesus re-emphasised this when He said: "He who the Son sets free is free indeed."

John 8:30-31 Then many of the Jewish leaders who heard him say these things began believing him to be the Messiah.

Jesus said to them, “You are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you to, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said, “and have never been slaves to any man on earth! What do you mean, ‘set free’?” 34 Jesus replied, “You are slaves of sin, every one of you. 35 And slaves don’t have rights, but the Son has every right there is! 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free

We Brits have proudly boasted that we are a free country and have boldly proclaimed the right of freedom of speech.

"Britons never ever shall be slaves!"

Sadly now we see this being retracted under the pretext of not offending anyone or "flattening the curve".

There is only one place to find true freedom and that is through the cross of Jesus.

He sets us free and, in His Heavenly Kingdom, we are eternally free people.

Come join in the freedom Jesus offers! It's free for all who will come to Him.
