Matthew 7:13-14
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
In the 2019 UK General Election, the Labour Party had the slogan: "For the many, not the few". Meaning that Labour purported to be for the ordinary folk and not the rich elite.
Compare Jesus' words to us, they ring very clearly to today. His Way is a narrow way, not many find it, but for those who do, it leads to life eternal.
These days, to be a true follower of Jesus, it means to be in the minority. You have to go against the flow of public opinion. It means being labelled "intolerant, bigoted, prejudiced" etc etc.
No one likes to be outnumbered and unpopular, but there's no alternative.
Standing up for truth means to face opposition and conflict.
When the world says there's no male and female, you can identify as whatever you want!
What does the Bible say:
He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.
Genesis 5:2
When the world says: there are many ways to God, what does Jesus say:
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6
When the world says: "There is no God" - the Bible says:
The fool says in his heart,
‘There is no God.’
Psalm 14:1
So we see that we must be very grounded in God's word to ensure that we enter through that narrow gate and stay on the narrow path.
Being called "narrow minded" is usually a derogatory term, but, as a follower of Jesus, being narrow minded in His Way is vital.
I've been on many tours around the world with my nearest and dearest. My role as navigator was to keep armed with detailed maps to ensure that we negotiated our way around unknown terrain. I had to keep my eye on the road and compare it with the map continually. If the two didn't line up - I knew we had gone the wrong way - even if there were many cars travelling on that road.
Just because the majority are travelling in one direction, don't be deceived into thinking it is the right one.
Let's keep our eyes on God's Word and examine what is going on around us. Even if it means being unpopular, keep following Jesus - He ALONE leads to life eternal.
Be determined to be one of the "few" not the "many"!
Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen
