"1. Jesus was slain for me,
At Calvary
Crowned with thorns was He,
At Calvary,
There He in anguish died,
There from His opened side,
Poured forth the crimson tide,
At Calvary.
2. Pardoned is all my sin,
At Calvary,
Cleansed is my heart within,
At Calvary,
Now robes of praise I wear.
Gone are my grief and care,
Christ bore my burdens there,
At Calvary.
3. Wondrous His love for me,
At Calvary,
Glorious His victory,
At Calvary,
Vanquished are death and hell,
Oh, let His praises swell,
Ever my tongue shall tell
Of Calvary."
After being filled with the Holy Spirit, the words of this hymn became engraved on my heart.
Yes, Jesus died on the Cross for everyone, but, suddenly, I knew that I knew that I knew: He died for ME!
It was like an unveiling of a mystery, and an unwrapping of the most wonderful gift ever....for ME.
That's the wonder of the Cross, an opening, not of the Red Sea, but of Heaven's Door for a sinner like me.
In the movie "The Passion of the Christ," Mel Gibson's hand is shown driving the nail into Jesus' hand during the crucifixion scene. He has stated that this was a symbolic act representing his own feeling of responsibility for the events of the film and the suffering of Christ.
Yes, Mel, I understand how you felt.
I too know it was me who put Jesus on the Cross, drove the nails in His Hands and feet, who shouted "crucify" and what I got back was love and forgiveness.
"Ever my tongue shall tell of Calvary."
John 19:1-6 NKJV
So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him. [2] And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe. [3] Then they said, "Hail, King of the Jews!" And they struck Him with their hands. [4] Pilate then went out again, and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him." [5] Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, "Behold the Man!" [6] Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him."
